Gabrielle Gagnon-Picard

Gabrielle Gagnon-Picard is a Vancouver-based pianist originally from Montreal, Quebec. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of British Columbia in the studio of Dr. Corey Hamm. An accomplished soloist, Gabrielle has toured in Canada and is a laureate of the Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition, Canada’s largest competition devoted to new music. Her other distinctions include the Auguste Descarries Annual Scholarship, First Prize in the Richmond Music Festival Concerto Division, and the Roy Barnett Graduate Fellowship.

An avid chamber musician, Gabrielle has performed in a wide variety of settings, from duos to large ensembles, with repertoire spanning classical works, improvisation, and graphic scores. She has appeared in the ECM+ Debuts concert series, the Jeunesses Musicales du Canada 2024–2025 touring season, and the Vivier InterUniversitaire, among others.

Although she enjoys a broad range of repertoire, Gabrielle’s greatest passion is contemporary music. She is recognized for her compelling and fearless approach to extended techniques, electroacoustic music, graphic notation, improvisation, and live-generated scores. A dedicated collaborator, she frequently works with emerging composers and has performed or recorded more than two dozen premieres to date.

Gabrielle holds a Master of Music degree and a Graduate Diploma from the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, where she studied with Louise Bessette, as well as a Bachelor of Music with Distinction from the University of Alberta, where she studied with Dr. Jacques Després.

Outside of music, Gabrielle enjoys swimming, scuba diving, hiking in the Rockies, and salsa dancing.
